Choosing a Touch Screen Display

Touch screens have been with us since the early 1970’s but it has only been in the last few years that the technology has expanded into personal applications as well as business. Traditionally touch screen displays were expensive and only to be found in industrial applications but recent advances and falling cost of technology has meant that the touch screen display is now in everything from the mobile phone and pocket computer to ATM machines and information points. Touch screens work in one of a number of ways from using infrared to detect the heat of a finger to the more accurate resistive and capacitive touch screens that use an electrical field. Touch screens have an obvious advantage over conventional monitors in that using a graphical user interface (GUI) and touch screen means that the display can act as both an input and output device so there is no need for a separate keyboard and mouse and their associated wires. In selecting a touch screen display several questions need to be asked – what tasks will the display be used for, how clear does the monitor need to be, what environment will it be placed in and how responsive does it need to be? In an industrial environment where the display may have to endure contaminants such as grease, dirt and dust or suffer the risk of getting wet then a sealed capacitive touch screen would be the best option. These are very durable and rugged and many of are manufactured for water and dust resistance (IP56 and IP65). When more clarity is required from the screen (most touch screens have less illumination than conventional monitors) such as for surgical or medical use then surface wave panel-based touch screen is the better option. These use ultrasound to identify when they are touched and can easily be damaged but they offer better clarity and optical accuracy than other systems. If a touch screen display is to be left in a public area, unattended or outside then the simplest form of touch screen, the strain gauge, where the screen is spring mounted on the four corners and the movement is measured when the screen is touched, is by far the most durable touch screen display. While they are not as responsive as other types of touch screen they are often used when there is a risk of vandalism.

Notebook Display: WXGA, WSXGA or WUXGA?

When buying a widescreen notebook, it can be a bit confusing to pick the right LCD. Generally, you are given a choice between WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA notebook displays. What are these and which do you choose? WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA The above acronyms are resolution standards for television and computer monitors. All of them refer to widescreen display standards: WXGA stands for Widescreen Extended Graphics Array; WSXGA for Widescreen Super Extended Graphics Array; and WUXGA for Widescreen Ultra Extended Graphics Array. WXGA, WSXGA and WUXGA are not the only display standards for screen displays, but they are the most common in notebook computers. True to widescreen standards, all three of these have an aspect ratio in the range of 16/9 to 16/10. They mainly differ in their resolution (the number of pixels they can display on screen). While all widescreen displays can use resolutions lower than their rated display, they provide the best image at their native resolution, which is also their maximum resolution. Keep in mind that a lower resolution is much easier on the eyes, so you will want to go with a native resolution that does not leave you squinting at the screen in your day-to-day use. WXGA has a 1366×768 resolution, an aspect ratio of 16/9. WSXGA boasts a greater resolution at 1680×1050 and an aspect ratio of 16/10. WUXGA uses a resolution of 1920×1200 at an aspect ratio of 16/10. What to Pick? If you are buying a notebook computer for gaming purposes, you probably want a WUXGA screen for the sharpest image. If you are an HDTV subscriber and you plan to use your notebook computer as an HDTV receiver, WUXGA gives the very highest resolution available. WUXGA is also great for watching movies and viewing digital images due to the sharp rendering of images and pictures. WUXGA is very convenient for multi-tasking, provided you can handle the small display size. This is perfect for working on two documents or web pages side-by-side, which can enhance productivity. A WUXGA LCD can display greater amounts of detail than both WXGA and WSXGA, so you can see on the screen. This is not to say that WXGA and WSXGA have nothing to recommend them. In fact, WUXGA is not for everyone. If the notebook computer does not have a powerful mobile GPU and a 17-inch or larger LCD, high-resolution gaming potential will be more difficult, as it takes a high-end GPU to push modern games to 1920×1200 resolutions. As mentioned, customers with less than excellent vision are better off choosing WXGA to get the largest text display. If you want a notebook display with medium-sized text, sharp images, and less than 17 inches of physical screen size, WSXGA is a good compromise, and the 1680×1050 resolution is nothing to sneeze at, by any means. Television – Understanding the Liquid Crystal Display Technology

The Televisions that use Liquid Crystal Display for an improved image quality are termed as the LCD Televisions. This is one of the latest inventions of technologies in TV and computer monitors. LCD televisions are easy on the eye and the intensity of strain to the eye balls is greatly reduced. Thus they make prolonged viewing much more comfortable and stress free. In common parlance it can be said that there is a liquid in the screen and we see the image on the liquid screen. Broadly, this modern technology uses thin film transistors to monitor voltages to the individualized pixels. Here the transistors constantly regulate voltage to three liquid crystal sub pixels of red, green and blue, which in turn control light dispersion through the wafer thin panel. But to be precise, LCD technology is based on the utilization of specified polarized light. In this mechanism the pixels are actually the segregation of thin liquid crystalline gels which get sandwiched by two polarized panels. The separated pixels then get activated with the activation and stimulation of X/Y grid, a bunch of wires connected to them. The amount of voltage applied to the X/Y grid is directly proportional to the darkening of the pixels which in turn get polarized at 90 degrees, and thus to obtain a brighter appearance relatively lower voltage should be applied to the pixels and similarly for dark shadow area the pixels get a higher voltage from the grid. Irrespective of the voltage fluctuation a constant flow of charge keeps on passing through the pixels even at the absolute dark LCD pixel. The patterned vertical alignment or PVA and the super patterned vertical alignment or the SPVA technology is an added advantage of LCD televisions. The PVA and S-PVA offer a better and improved dark depth, and a wide viewing angles up to 178 degrees and S-PVA can offer additionally fast response times. An upgraded and dynamic contrast ratio or the ratios between brightest colors to that of the darkest shades are also proficiently delivered by the PVA and S-PVA LCD panels which offer a clear balanced and highly monitored display at any intensity of light at the surrounding. Thus each and every pixel emits consecutive lights to set intensity of the picture. Today a number of companies are offering these manifold offerings with LCD technology and are marketing world wide. The prices vary with the manufacturer and so too the added features. Such as, Samsung is offering a high contrast ratio nearly 3000:1 with value-oriented PVA panels. Their S-PVA panels do not apply color simulation or replication methods instead they use true electronics of 8-bit colors. Another new company Eizo uses even 10-bit colors and upgraded S-PVA panels. With these entire multiple and diverse benefits the most important caution against the usage of this liquid crystal display suggested by the authorities must be followed by the users. Such as, the liquid crystal inside the display are much toxic and can be fatal at times if it comes at a close contact with the skin or at any wounded area of the body part or even with the clothes. It must not be ingested either. In case of accident, if spills occur, the area should be cleaned with soap and water immediately. However, there is a very low risk of such an accident taking place and there is no need of panic. Only if someone is totally irresponsible will he tear open the screen and cause an accident! It has been said that the improvement and advancement of LCD technology has increased the customer expectancy towards the quality resolution at a reasonable market price of this gadget and a minimal power consumption at the same time.

Samsung LN46C630 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV Review – Fantastic Image Display

Samsung LN46C630 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV Review The image of this TV box is amazing. After a series of small changes, was close to perfection as I could imagine. SQ01 supplied with the panel, and it would be difficult to distinguish colors and the quality of some plasma in September looked at me. Television is in a bright room and matte screen cuts glare, no deterioration of image quality. The viewing angle is very good, but never more than 25-30 degrees from the center. The picture is very stable from one channel to another, without changing the backlight, that I can see and the picture quality in standard definition with HD almost 16:9. It has various settings for processing speed and anti-shake blur when you use the custom display mode, in contrast to most devices that combine both options in one. I see a lot of sport and really do not notice motion blur at 60Hz, 120Hz is not really a problem. I’m not a player, that is, for my listening habits do not see the need for more than a choice of 240Hz to spend. The sound is very good for watching normal TV. You can connect to a home network and I am connected to my laptop to the VGA port and SD Netflix to see, also produces an acceptable image. There are several parameters that you can use the images to almost any source of programming, including monitoring at 120 Hz fit, without the soap opera effect “that some people find annoying. There are four HDMI and two USB ports and a headphone output. No S-Video cable, you may need to connect to external devices and more. Uversa is the source of programming. One thing about the installation. The first night, the picture suddenly darkens and restore shine, even if it’s dark when I left the menu. I spoke with Samsung and had no idea what was going on. It turns out that this series automatically adjusts the brightness of your stay in the default view is the default. You can change it in the image below a certain level always green light, or you can disable. This is not a problem when using other display modes. The last time I bought an LCD I was around us in case I find something better. If this is not the case this time, completely satisfied. Transport driver from Amazon was great. Delivered on time, the TV and arm, and had everything working in 5-10 minutes . You can find more information about this Samsung LN46C630 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV and you may be able to find a quieter reasonable price, rather than go into high street store to get it.
